About the Speakers: 

Dr Diarmuid Ó Briain Chartered Professional Engineer with over 30 years' experience in Telecommunications, Information Networking and Security. 

Designed and implemented next-generation networks and information security solutions for major multi-national communications companies as well as an Irish Internet Service Provider (ISP). Instrumental in designing support solutions for major carriers around the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. 

Delivered technical education programmes within industry and the 3rd level education sector in both Ireland and Uganda and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Aerospace, Mechanical and Electronics, and a researcher in engCORE at the Institute of Technology, Carlow. Diarmuid's current research focus is industrial networks and cybersecurity.

Bob Semple has more than 40 years’ business experience working as an IT professional, accountant and auditor.  For 36 years, he worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers where, most recently, he was partner responsible for governance and risk management services.  He now works as an independent consultant - specialising in governance and board effectiveness reviews – and as a lecturer in governance and risk management. 

He has recently completed 6 years as Director and Chair of Suas, an Irish charity providing literacy and numeracy services to disadvantaged children.  Previously he has held Director appointments in CGIAR (Montpelier) , an international agricultural research institute, GS1 Ireland, a supply chain standards body, CIMMYT, a Mexican International Organisation dedicated to improving wheat and maize in the developing world, and in PwC, where he was an elected member of the Governance Committee of the partnership. 

Bob is a computer science graduate. from University College Dublin, and is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, of the Irish Computer Society, and of ICSA, the Governance Institute; he is also a Chartered Director (IoD, London) and recently qualified as  Lumina Practitioner in Personality Assessment.

Dr. Glen Collins is a Chartered Engineer and holds a Bachelors (cum laude) and Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Certificate in Acoustical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from Vanderbilt University.  

He has worked as a CTO, General Manager, Systems Engineer and Project Manager in professional audio, satellite communications, high performance computing and software engineering.  Glen is an active volunteer with the Engineers Ireland South East region Committee and STEPS programme, volunteering his time to inspire the next generation of engineers and promote engineering as a profession. He also directed the AI2 Conference held by Engineers Ireland in Kilkenny in March 2019.
